The Hein-Fry Book of Faith Challenge (HFBFC) launched in 2015 to enliven the biblical engagement of the whole church by encouraging the development of new examples of faithful, innovative and effective ways of teaching and learning Scripture. The project is jointly sponsored by the seminaries of the ELCA, the Hein-Fry Planning Team, and the Book of Faith initiative.

The 2018 HFBFC invites seminary students to create projects that aim to “foster a learning community that is an ‘open table.’” That is, we are encouraging efforts to bring together at the same table both those who are long-steeped in biblical texts, themes and images and those who are largely (or even completely) unfamiliar with them.

You are invited to join the conversation as we consider Scripture engagement together.

Main Respondent

Our main respondent, Dr. Barbara Rossing, Professor of New Testament (LSTC), will lead a panel of three academic and church leaders as they give educational and pastoral feedback to student teams following each project presentation.
