Giving Thanks: Reclaiming Our Shared Values
A Center of Christian-Muslim Engagement for Peace and Justice at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago is Giving Thanks: Reclaiming Our Shared Values with our partners, colleagues, and friends on Sunday, Nov 29, 2026. Come feast with us and witness Muslim artists sharing their gifts and talents!
Join us in turning the historical Thanksgiving story around – lifting up our beloved, multi-cultural community through a celebration of the long-standing collaboration and partnership established in Christian-Muslim Relations. We believe that we are better together, despite and even because of our differences. Explore the values of gratitude, generosity, compassion, stewardship, curiosity, creativity, and hospitality at this feast and showcase of Muslim artists.
The feast begins at 6:00 pm in CTU’s Room 210, with not only a variety of halal cuisine but also opportunities to try Ebru (Turkish Marbling), receive personal samples of beautiful Calligraphy, and get to know one another in meaningful ways. At 7:00, the showcase begins, adding drama, music, and spoken word to the program. Artist friends who have accompanied us previously in seeking peace and justice in the interfaith community will be among us:
MC: Dr Tariq El-Amin, imam and storyteller
Sounds of Faith by Dr. Shakeela Hassan
Monologue by playwright and actress Rohina Malik
Silk Road Rising video by Jamil Khoury
Calligraphy with Nour al-Majzoub
Ebru with Dr. Betul Bilgin
… and more!
Registration is required for both in-person (feast and showcase) and online (showcase only) participants. All ages and folks from all faith/belief backgrounds are welcome.
