LSTC Faculty Contribute to OPA Critique of Current Administration

A group of emeriti faculty from LSTC, along with other faith leaders in academia and the public church, have come together to form a group known as the “Old Professors Association” (OPA). The OPA recently released a theologically grounded critique of the administration’s current direction, engaging deeply with the problematics of Christian nationalism. You can read the OPA statement here and learn more about the OPA here. You can find a Spanish language version of the statement here.
The OPA statement follows a host of other institutions, including LSTC, who have taken a firm stance against public efforts to undermine diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in higher education and the church. LSTC remains steadfast in its commitment to these values. On February 20, 2025, the LSTC faculty and board reaffirmed institutional commitments to DEIJ in this statement.
Other faith-based groups who have made similar public declarations in recent weeks. Union Theological Seminary in New York City quickly issued a statement of support following backlash against Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde’s sermon at the National Prayer Service on January 21st, 2025 (see www.utsnyc.edu). Likewise, Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas, has reiterated its dedication to diversity and justice (www.brite.edu).
At a time when these values are increasingly under threat, LSTC stands with other faith communities and institutions of conscience in witness to the gospel’s call for justice.
